The sun was shining brightly over the city park on a warm Saturday afternoon. Families were picnicking, and children were running around joyfully. Mr. Abebe was playing soccer with his grandson, Samuel. Earlier that morning, Mr. Abebe had mentioned he felt a bit under the weather, but he did not want to miss the game. He thought it was just a minor headache, but as the game progressed, his face became pale. Suddenly, in the blink of an eye, the elderly man clutched his chest and collapsed onto the grass. Samuel started to scream, paralyzed by fear as he watched his grandfather lie motionless. Sarah, a young nurse who was sitting on a nearby bench, noticed the commotion and sprinted toward them. She realized immediately that this was a serious medical emergency and that they needed to act fast. Sarah reached the scene and saw Mr. Abebe had passed out completely. She turned to young Samuel and said, 'I need you to pull yourself together, Samuel. Help is on the way, but I need you to stay brave.' The boy took a deep breath and tried to stop crying, realizing that staying calm was the best way to help his grandfather. Sarah began to check for a pulse and breathing. She instructed another witness to go to the park office and look for a first-aid kit or an automated external defibrillator. 'It is better safe than sorry,' she thought, hoping they would have the right equipment. She maintained a steady rhythm of chest compressions, keeping her head despite the growing crowd of worried onlookers. Every second felt like an hour, but she did not stop her efforts. Minutes later, the distant wail of a siren grew louder. The ambulance sped into the park, and paramedics jumped out with their specialized gear. They took over the life-saving measures, using advanced equipment to stabilize Mr. Abebe. Because Sarah had acted so quickly and remained composed, the paramedics were able to restart Mr. Abebe's heart before they reached the hospital. Later that evening, the doctor told the family that Sarah's quick thinking had saved his life. Samuel learned that day that while emergencies are scary, knowing what to do can make all the difference.
